Lynchburg Snow Removal Ordinance

In light of our current weather forecast, some of you may find this information useful.

Sec. 35-6 of the Lynchburg City Code: Removal of snow, sleet, and ice from sidewalks (paraphrased).

You must remove all snow from your sidewalk within four (4) hours after the snow has stopping falling. The exception is if the snow stopped falling during the night. In that case, it has to be removed by noon.

If it is ice or sleet on your sidewalk, the same rules apply. However, if the ice/sleet cannot be removed without damaging the sidewalk, you have to cover the sidewalk with sand, ashes, or some other substance that will make it the sidewalk safe to walk on.

You can be fined five dollars ($5.00) for not removing snow from your sidewalk. Every six (6) hours that snow or ice is not cleaned up is considered to be a separate offense.

Stay safe, Lynchburg!
