Going Away to School? Get These Documents.

If you have a young adult going away to college next month or starting out on their own, consider asking them to have a power of attorney and advance medical directive drawn up.

When a person turns 18 years old, they are legally an adult. Hospitals, banks, and insurance companies will no longer allow parents access to their child’s information.

For the months of July and August, Leitch Law is providing clients ages 18-24 with Powers of Attorney and Advance Medical Directives for a flat fee of $90.00.

A Power of Attorney is a document that names someone to act on your behalf in a financial capacity.

An Advance Medical Directive is a document that names someone to make medical decisions for you if you cannot make them for yourself. (A doctor determines whether you are able to make your own medical decisions.) An AMD may also document your directions or preferences regarding specific care, such as end-of-life care or organ donation.

If you are unsure whether you or your child would benefit from having these documents in place, please give Leitch Law a call or shoot us a text/email. We would be happy to discuss them with you in greater detail.

Payment arrangements can be made.
